The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program was created in 1916. In 1919, the program came to the Washoe County School DistrictReno High School, and in 1974 women were admitted to the program. The JROTC program at Galena High School uses the 14 leadership traits to help mold each student into an exceptional leader. The four year program is designed to provide a quality citizenship, character, and leadership development program. When a JROTC cadet graduates from the program, he or she will be able to think logically and to communicate effectively with others. A graduate will also appreciate the importance of high school graduation for a successful future. * Participation in JROTC for 2.5 years will cover your mandatory high school Physical Education (PE) and Health credits.
The JROTC’s primary mission is to, “Motivate Young People to Be Better Citizens.” JROTC programs have changed greatly over the years. Once looked upon as a recruiting source for the military, JROTC has become a citizenship program devoted to the moral, physical and educational uplift of America’s youth. The Galena JROTC program strongly encourages students to graduate from high school. Students who participate in JROTC graduate at a higher rate than non- JROTC students. Our instructors support the students’ decision and will help in any way to ensure their success, be it college, a career or any other venture. The Galena JROTC program offers a variety of special teams that compete in District, Regional, and National events. This includes: Drill Team, Color Guard, Honor Guard, Drum and Bugle, Academic Team, and Rifle Team
