FUNDING DEVELOPMENT

This section is provided for the numerous proactive private sector foundations and tax-exempt entities scouring the Internet nationwide to identify and fund worthy youth programs that are intent on building leadership acumen, self-esteem, a lust for life-long learning and scholarship, a spirit of discovery, teamwork, senses of responsibility, an insistence on integrity, expressions of innovation, a climate of mutual respect, loyalty, community service, and the five "Ps" (pursuit of excellence, planning, preparation, precision, and persistence).

As a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity under the 501 (C)(3) section of the IRS code, the Grizzlies Battalion implements all four of the basic "pistons" of our funding development "engine": grantsmanship, planned gifts, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising special events.

Our 'future funding' plan follows:

Our future-funding portfolio is comprised of numerous proven and effective elements taken from fundraising, corporate sponsorship, grantsmanship, and planned giving.

FUNDRAISING – The Grizzlies Battalion has formed an ‘umbrella’ funding development committee, under which was formed the Fundraising Sub-Committee comprised of organization trustees, personal-development organization representatives, business persons, education advocates, and leadership mentors.  The sub-committee meets monthly to plan fundraising projects and programs (ranging from galas to seminars, commercial non-profit businesses to product sales, awards banquets to Festivals).

All fundraising projects of the organization contribute a pre-agreed-upon percentage of their net proceeds (if not earmarked in their entirety) to the Grizzlies Battalion Trust Fund to ensure that the Trust Fund’s corpus, or principal, will continue to grow to provide ever-increasing 'interest incomes' annually in perpetuity.

ORGANIZATION TRUST FUND – Our Trust Fund will be created, the corpus of which will never be spent. The interest income from the corpus, derived by investing in a portfolio, will be used to fund organization projects and programming after having first been leveraged with ‘matches’ from corporate sponsors, County, State, Federal, philanthropic individuals, and private foundations.

PLANNED GIFTS – Planned giving instruments include Gift Annuities, Special Use Agreements, Pooled Life Income Fund Agreements, Wills, and Life Insurance Policies, plus Charitable Remainder Trusts.  These instruments, established at major financial institutions with trust departments, will provide donors with significant win-win tax shelters and programs, while the proceeds from them would go on to fund projects and the organization Trust Fund in perpetuity.

PRIVATE SECTOR GRANTS – A formal grantsmanship campaign has been started to contact the many private, family, and corporate foundations with specific “leadership” and “teamwork” and “pursuit of excellence” and “scholarship” and “precision” areas of interest.  Throughout the years, grant proposals would be developed for various projects and programming, and to fund the organization’s Trust Fund.

PUBLIC SECTOR GRANTS – A formal grantsmanship campaign has been started to address the many grants available from city, county, state and federal programs.

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS – This sub-committee identifies the corporations that historically support “leadership” and “teamwork” and “pursuit of excellence” and “scholarship” and “precision” projects and programs. This list is then ‘boiled down’ by selecting those that have operations and activities in Northern Nevada.  Proposals are being developed and presented to those corporations, and such funds will be used for earmarked programs such as The Grizzlies' Battalion Trust Fund.
